The electro-funkiest duo on the planet Chromeo are breaking records with their new record, Drivetime.
Touted as quite literally the world's shortest 'long player', it clocks in at only 121 seconds long, shattering the previous record by an eternity. As other artists stretch out albums to greater and greater lengths with additional tracks, extended remixes and bonus extras, Chromeo are bucking the trend by packing 55 tracks into 2 minutes. All of them killer. No time for filler. It's also physically quite wee, as you can see here:

Chromeo-worlds-smallest-album-525x291

Inspiration for this concept album came from Chromeo's desire to identify and condense the soul of their music. "People make such a big deal about the White Album because it was so long," they explain. "We just went to the essence."

Although the music is quintessential Chromeo, Drivetime sees the band explore political themes for the first time in their career. "We felt our fans were lost and needed some guidance. They needed to know when to turn, and where to turn, and what direction to turn. It's our role as entertainers to guide them." The track "Turn Left" in particular is a disco anthem that screams defiance.

You can see more in this exclusive behind-the scenes video that shows the band in the studio working on the Drivetime album.

The Drivetime album is available exclusively from the Nokia Ovi store for free download as part of the Own Voice app.

As a part of the Nokia N8 launch campaign Wieden + Kennedy has created a mobile app that lets you make music anywhere, with anything.  We made the app super easy to use, so even people with no musical ability can easily make a track. Loop comes preprogrammed with nine basslines to get amateurs looping with ease, and for the more advanced looper, the BPM and pad sounds can be customised.

N8 loop screens all 3 small
Once a loop is made, it can be set as your ringtone, or shared on Facebook via Soundcloud. You can hear some of the loops already shared at loopapp.net  The app was created in collaboration with Symsource, who did a great job on the back end. If you have a Nokia N8 or C7, you can download the app for free at Nokia’s Ovi store. Get looping!

And to promote the Loop app we decided to create a track in a poodle parlour called, funnily enough, Poodle Loop. The loop was created by musician Warrior One on a Nokia N8, and shot on location in Shanghai, official home of coloured dogs. The film, part demo, part documentary, part music video, was directed by Kim Gehrig of Academy Films. The graphics shown in the film were taken from Loop’s unique interface.

Enjoy – and do download Loop for free if you have a Nokia N8 or C7 at Nokia’s Ovi Store.

We are very excited to announce the launch of Carpe Diem.

It’s a project we at Wieden + Kennedy London have worked on with Nokia and in partnership with The
School of Life.
A series of daily tasks, which helps you do something new every
day. The kind of little tasks that get our imaginations going, make some
memories and get us learning a bit more about ourselves and the world around
us.

The tasks range from the thought-provoking to the
spontaneous and light hearted, some even have little rewards to help you on
your way and give you a nudge in the right direction. Follow all the daily suggestions
and by the end of the year you'll have done all sorts: from the delights of
having a ‘hygge’, to partaking in some random acts of kindness, and dabbling in
a spot of poetry.

How To Take Part:

Launched today, and running for a whole year, you can get
started by visiting the website: carpediemdaily.com or if you're a
Nokia user, by downloading the app from the Ovi Store by Nokia: It’s 100% free and
easy to install.

How Does It Work?

1. Carpe Diem will send you a daily lesson.
Ranging from the thought provoking to the light-hearted,
these might take the form of a dose of wisdom, a witty insight,
interesting fact or motivational challenge.

2. Each lesson will
come with an easy-to-complete task.

Tasks will usually invite you to capture and share a moment of your life
by snapping a photo, contributing a few lines of text or posting a
short video.

Picture 1

3. Upload your contribution to your personal Carpe Diem Daily page.
Keep track of your daily submissions and check out what other
members of the Carpe Diem community have submitted at carpediemdaily.com

Take part in the tasks every day and your life will change (for the
better, more fulfilled sort we hope) and the handy thing is that Carpe Diem
Daily comes in app form, so you can get the tasks straight to your phone. For
the Nokia-less amongst you – fear not, you can still take part and share all your
life-changing actions with the rest of the world.

Here’s what’s happened when we did a test-run of one of the tasks in the
agency earlier:

It has been proven that people who hug and cuddle more live longer than
those who don't. Extend your life and have a cuddle with someone you love. Take
a photo.
