Shots success!

An advertising award which shares its name with a style of an alcoholic drink! Sounds good to us. So when our brethren in Portland couldn't be there in person to collect their Shots prize, we saw it as our duty to step into the breech. W+K Portland were tucking into their Thanksgiving Turkeys when Karyn and Alex from the London office popped down to W1 to wave the W+K flag.

The accolade was given for Agency of the Year and PDX beat off stiff competition to win the gong. There was a shout out, too, for shortlisted W+K New York.

As the cherry on the cake, there was an additional award for Portland on the night. In recognition of the interactive excellence of the Old Spice Muscle Music game which launched in August. Congrats on your double whammy, PDX.

The evening of glory:

The morning after the night before – awards ready for transatlantic transit:

WEbbys AOTY crop
Following on from being named agency of the year 2011 by Creative Review a couple of weeks ago, Wieden + Kennedy has now been named agency of the year 2011 at the Webby awards.

Special mention goes to our Nokia 'world's smallest stop-frame animation' AKA 'Dot', which won the 'People's Choice' in the animation category. Thankyou to our friends, The People for their votes.

For those of you who may not know what the Webbys are, read on:

The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. Established in 1996 during the Web's infancy, the Webbys are presented by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which includes an Executive 750-member body of leading Web experts, business figures, luminaries, visionaries and creative celebrities, and Associate Members who are former Webby Award Winners and Nominees and other Internet professionals.

The Academy is an intellectually diverse organization that includes members such as musicians Beck and David Bowie, Internet inventor Vint Cerf, political columnist Arianna Huffington, Real Networks CEO Rob Glaser, "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, R/GA Founder and Chairman Robert Greenberg, Virgin Atlantic Chairman and Founder Richard Branson, and The Weinstein Company Co-Founder Harvey Weinstein. Members also include writers and editors from publications such as The New York Times, Wired, Details, Fast Company, Elle, The Los Angeles Times, Vibe, and WallPaper. The 14th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and generated over 750 million media impressions worldwide.

"To be selected among the best is an incredible achievement worthy of praise — and perhaps a little bragging." Is what it says on their site. So, please accept this post as an appropriate degree of bragging.

Wieden + Kennedy named agency of the year 2010 by Ad Age & Creativity

"For the first time, Ad Age and Creativity are honoring the same top shop. And for good reason. When it came to bold idea-making and strong execution, nobody did it like this Portland, Ore.-based stalwart. Couple that with its newfound mettle in building strong client bonds and it won the business case, too."

Creativity said:

"Creativity considers all agency types in its agency of the year selection process — digital, full service and everything in between — so only one top agency emerges from that multidisciplinary pile. But no agency can win without demonstrating a "digital" mindset in its work, and an overall fitness to thrive in a digital world. Wieden simply represented the best all-round agency, one that happened to distinguish itself by having the best digital campaign of the year."

These latest accolades come on top of what was a pretty amazing 2010 for W+K in terms of Agency and Campaign of the Year-type things. There's no way to list this stuff without sounding like a bunch of smug gits, but here goes:

– Campaign Network of the Year 2010

– Adweek Agency of the Year 2010

– Advertising Age agency of the Year 2010

– Creativity Agency of the Year 2010

– SHOOT magazine Agency of the Year 2010

– Ranked by clients as UK’s #1 digital agency (Pitch / YouGov survey)

– Ranked by strategic planners as world’s #1 (equal) for planning

– Five out of the year’s top ten most-watched brand virals on YouTube

– Nike Write the Future named Campaign’s Campaign of the Year

– Three Grands Prix at Cannes Festival

– Top prize at Campaign Big Awards for Nike

– Top prize at Epica Europe Awards for Nokia

– Top Prize at One Show Interactive for Nike

Creativity quotes founder Dan Wieden as follows:

"In any company you go through a period of thinking, this is not like the good old days," Mr. Wieden said. "Well, the good old days were never as good as this last year."
