a new curator: Satsuki Shibuya

CurateLogo

As part of our Pinterest series for Curate, we invited the artist and Pinfluencer Satsuki Shibuya to curate a Board in response to the following question:

Which exhibition, imagined or real, would be your choice as the most inspiring ever?

Through her response 'SEEmingly SO', Satsuki asks the viewer to question their perspective of what art means and to use the act of looking to redefine it.

01

"Within Japanese culture, craftsmanship is regarded as an art form where visual beauty and functionality combine to create 'every-day art.'"

02

Born and raised in the tree-filled foothills of LA, Satsuki’s escapades have included studying music at the university of southern California and graphic design at Otis College of Art and Design, pursuing a career as a singer/songwriter, delving into hand processes such as pattern design and sewing, launching a design studio, as well as raising a dog that loves treats and naps a little too much.

a new curator: Marissa Cox

The
latest edition to our Pinterest
Boards
for the Curate Award comes from
the online editor of Art Wednesday, Marissa Cox. We
invited Marissa to curate a Board in response to the following question:

Which
exhibition, imagined or real, would be your choice as the most inspiring ever?

Marissa was
inspired by an interview she held with the artist John Baldessari
who described “art as conversion”. Through her board she explores the work of
artists who incorporate words and text in their art, contributing quite
literally to its wider conversation.

A new curator: Christopher Jobson

Prada curate

Christopher Jobson, the creator and editor of
Colossal shares his Pinterest Board for Curate. Invited by Fondazione Prada and the Qatar
Museums Authority, Christopher curated a Pinterest Board in response to the
following question:

Which exhibition, imagined or real, would be your choice as the
most inspiring ever?

Christopher took inspiration from the
exploration of light in contemporary art. 'Light,
Shadow and Reflection
' showcases work such as Benoit Paillé’s Illuminated Landscapes, where suspended
glowing spheres seep light into the surrounding area.

A new curator: Sanna Helena Berger

Curate PIN
Today sees the launch of our latest Pinterest board for Curate, the first award of its kind to recognise up and coming talent in curation. Working with the Fondazione Prada and the Qatar Museums Authority, we hand-picked a group of influencers from the world of art and culture to inspire entries by curating Pinterest boards that illustrate and celebrate the diversity of curatorial concepts. We invited each influencer to create a Pinterest board in response to the following question:

Which exhibition, imagined or real, would be your choice as the most inspiring ever?

Last month saw the launch of 'Makers', a board curated by Vimeo's Lead Curator, Jordan McGarry. Jordan took her inspiration from people who make stuff and the films that tell their stories.

This month's inspiration comes from artist Sanna Helena Berger's board 'Movement in Fashion.' Sanna Helena Berger is a film-only photographer and filmmaker from Sweden, living and working in London. She also founded and curates TOURIST – an ever-evolving platform for art and fashion which is soon to become a printed publication. Sanna used her fascination for movement to curate her imagined exhibition.

What will you curate?

It isn't often you have the opportunity to collaborate with a high fashion brand and a beacon in the art world – let alone when they create something together for the first time. We did. And it was suitably fabulous.

Fondazione Prada and the Qatar Museums Authority asked us to work with them to launch an award – the first of its kind – to recognize up and coming talent in curation.

The ambition is to appeal beyond established curators, instead opening the field to anyone wanting to creatively and socially define what the perfect exhibition could look like.

Could that be you? If so, click here to find out more and enter.

Here at W+K we designed and built the award website, created the hero 'call for entries' launch film, devised the look and feel for the award and created all promotional materials.

Entries are open until the end of the year but to punctuate the submissions period, we're releasing a series of Pinterest Boards. These are being curated by hand picked influencers from the world of art and culture. Their brief? To curate a board based on their idea of the most inspirational exhibition. Ever.
