Tesco Congrats, from Saatchi (and er, Asda)

The sun's out. We're wearing flipflops. The Twister ice lollies are flowing. Just when we thought the day couldn't any better… a hamper arrived at W+K reception.

A hamper full of Asda goodies, no less. From our friends over at Saatchi & Saatchi.

Thanks guys. See you in and around the Christmas trading period.

Wieden + Kennedy selected as lead agency for Tesco

Tesco has announced the appointment of Wieden + Kennedy as its new lead creative and strategic agency following a competitive pitch.

The pitch process was handled by intermediary consultancy Oystercatchers.

Matt Atkinson, Group Marketing and Digital Officer at Tesco said, “We are delighted to have appointed W+ K after a very competitive pitch process. Their strong thinking, brilliant team work and creativity really stood out. We are excited about working with them on our plans. I would say that it was very hard to make a decision, the responses we had from all were very compelling indeed”

Neil Christie, Managing Director of Wieden + Kennedy said, “We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to be working with Tesco. It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with one of Britain’s truly iconic brands”

we won Tesco!!!

We got the news first thing this morning that we had won the pitch for Tesco, the UK's largest retailer. MASSIVE excitement! We went straight round the corner to our local Tesco and cleared them out of Tesco own-label champagne. ECD Tony (above) unable to contain his excitement. Local Tesco staff were also very happy about the result:

Back at the agency, we opened a few bottles and got everyone together to tell them the great news. This pitch has been a big one, with everyone working incredibly hard to nail it and those not working on it cheering on the pitch team. Very, very proud of everyone.

This is a great win: good people, a big piece of business and an opportunity to do great work for a truly iconic British brand.

Blimey, I'm worn out.

Good news at W+K – the lovely Matt Owen has joined us a permanent member of the account management crew.

Matt Owen

Matt has done a great job freelancing over the past few months getting stuck in on Nike and learning the ropes of agency life. He's proven to be a fast learner and a top bloke. So he now joins us as an Account Manager proper – working on Finlandia and Three. We won't forget this means he owes us a secret at the next agency meeting…

Facebook Incite

Last Friday, Sammy King (digital strategist) and Katie Harrison (creative) were invited to Facebook's shiny new offices in Covent Garden as part of their new Facebook Incite Series. Photo

This event focused on storytelling through the Facebook platform and alongside Facebook representatives they had an impressive line up of inspirational speakers:

Alice Birch – Playwright

Chris Sweeney – Video Director

Chris Mooney – Top Gear online editor

Dave Monyihan – Digital Spy editor

Luke Lewis – NME online editor

Facebook are really making an effort with these events, continuing to try and position themselves as human rather than just technological.

Facebook sweets, olive tree planting and a designer stubble DJ, helped make us feel a bit cosier with Facebook and we are really excited about the possiblities.

Sammy and Katie have written up their learnings which you can read here:
